FRIENDS FOREVER

"Friends" created by Ella W. and "Forever" created by Ellie N.
There is always a 'framework' for the art projects that I ask kids to create in art class.  However...I try as much as possible to allow them to fill in the framework with as much freedom as possible.  For example my fifth graders are currently painting themselves utilizing a monochromatic color scheme; one color plus white to make tints and black to make shades of their color.  They are in full control of what they feel is best in regards to application of the six-colors of their scheme; and then additionally in full control over how they use construction paper to create a background that utilizes a descriptive word.  However...these past few weeks, I've been watching the project above slowly come together with fantastic results.  I've never had two students work together to combine their artworks.  It's so fun and amazing to see the process and collaboration happen!  Definitely one of the perks of teaching art; seeing kids take your projects in whole new directions that you never dreamt of!!!

Also...yesterday was "May the Fourth", better known as International Star Wars Day!  I can't believe I forgot to blog about that!!!  So...here's a few goofy images from yesterday's "May the Fourth Be With You Day"!
