T-Minus 6 Days and Counting

A Display of 5th Grade Artword for the 2014-15 CIS Art Show
With the CIS Art Show now less than a week away, I thought it'd be nice to share and showcase some of the displays that I'm finishing up this week.  There's still quite a bit of artwork to be hung before next Monday's show...but it's slowly taking shape.  I hope that you'll be able to come and visit next Monday evening.

41...going on 12! :)

What a day!!!  Today was the big 4-1 for Mr. Weller and a few kids brought me some gifts which was SUPER NICE!!!

And as much fun as the day was...it was a little bittersweet as well, as one of my sixth grade art students is TODAY officially moving to Arizona.  Today was her last day of school...so sadly we had to say goodbye!

As the year draws to a close in the coming weeks...I'll have to say goodbye to a lot of great sixth graders as they transition to Bunsold Middle School.  It's always a bittersweet time of the year, and my 'early mover' reminded me to live in the moment and to enjoy every one as it happens.  Looking forward to a great remainder of the year with a fabulous group of students!

FRIENDS FOREVER

"Friends" created by Ella W. and "Forever" created by Ellie N.
There is always a 'framework' for the art projects that I ask kids to create in art class.  However...I try as much as possible to allow them to fill in the framework with as much freedom as possible.  For example my fifth graders are currently painting themselves utilizing a monochromatic color scheme; one color plus white to make tints and black to make shades of their color.  They are in full control of what they feel is best in regards to application of the six-colors of their scheme; and then additionally in full control over how they use construction paper to create a background that utilizes a descriptive word.  However...these past few weeks, I've been watching the project above slowly come together with fantastic results.  I've never had two students work together to combine their artworks.  It's so fun and amazing to see the process and collaboration happen!  Definitely one of the perks of teaching art; seeing kids take your projects in whole new directions that you never dreamt of!!!

Also...yesterday was "May the Fourth", better known as International Star Wars Day!  I can't believe I forgot to blog about that!!!  So...here's a few goofy images from yesterday's "May the Fourth Be With You Day"!

Art to Remember

Spring Art to Remember orders are HERE!!!  I will do my best to get all Art to Remember orders distributed to the kids this week!  However please be patient...MANY of these orders are for sixth graders that no longer have art class...so I'll do my best to hunt them down and give them their orders.

I'm also taking orders for late processing through May 6th!!!  So...if you still have your envelope laying around and still want to order...this is your final chance.  Oh...and if your sixth grader is in Mrs. Shaffer or Mrs. Terzis' homerooms...you will get order envelopes soon!
Thanks so much!
