Art to Remember

Spring Art to Remember orders are HERE!!!  I will do my best to get all Art to Remember orders distributed to the kids this week!  However please be patient...MANY of these orders are for sixth graders that no longer have art class...so I'll do my best to hunt them down and give them their orders.

I'm also taking orders for late processing through May 6th!!!  So...if you still have your envelope laying around and still want to order...this is your final chance.  Oh...and if your sixth grader is in Mrs. Shaffer or Mrs. Terzis' homerooms...you will get order envelopes soon!
Thanks so much!

CERAMIC GARGOYLES

Students from Mrs. Gould's fifth grade class work on sculpting gargoyles from ceramic clay!

My second semester fifth grade classes are busy finishing up their ceramic gargoyles this week.  Originally created to be used as a 'gutter system' on Gothic architecture and cathedrals, gargoyles represent some of the greatest achievments of stone sculputors from the 14th-16th centuries.  Students are mounting the pinch pot gargoyle heads on a slab base and then have the option of making theirs purely decorative or an actual water spitter.  The projects will need to dry for a few weeks before they're fired in the kiln.  We will then glaze them, refire them and they'll be ready for display.  The kids are LOVING this project!!!

JABBA the HUTT

"Jabba the Hutt" drawn by Donovin Natividad

I love it when some of the quirky, ridiculous things I do in the art room inspires kids to make art!!!  Take for example my latest sketchbook assignment video.  I created a video using a Jabba the Hutt toy that I have in my room and had him 'talking' to the kids 'assigning' them a sketchbook assignment.  And then...this happened!  One of my sixth graders watched the video and created this fantastic Jabba the Hutt drawing!!!  Just amazing!!!  It's these 'little things' that really make my job so enjoyable...
Happy Thursday!
